What Has It Been, Over 40 Years?

What Has It Been, Over 40 Years?

I was in Maine a couple weeks ago to help my lady, Sarah pack up the last of her belongings, meticulously place them into her car, and move her out to California. Yes, it is incredibly sweet to have her here in Los Angeles, living with me, finally! We really have been patient in figuring out the whole long distance thing. I’m really grateful that she uprooted her life there to come here. I get to curl up next to her every night now in person instead of talking her to sleep via cell phone most every night.

When I was in Maine, there were a couple realy great going away parties for Sarah while I was there. One was planned by Ang & Ang, a couple of Sarah’s BFF’s in Portland. The party was great success and lots of people turned out for it, many of whom I’d never met before, and in one particular case, someone I hadn’t seen in a super long time.

I mingled about at the party sitting and snacking with some friends drove from western Massachusetts to be there. I was intrduced to Sarah’s cousins from New Orleans and some friends of hers from an old job she had. I began talking with this friend of Sarah from Unum, her name was Suzanne. She lived in South Portland in Ferry Village area, which I love. If I were to live in SoPo, that’s where I’d want to live, it’s such a cute little neighborhood. There is a place down there that I love – it’s a church that a college art teacher made into a house. I want that place. I bet it’s friggin cool inside.

Anyway, I was standing there talking to Suzanne, she was a tall slender girl, looked about my age I thought. She and Sarah and I were standing htere and Suzanne happened to mention something about having just had a birthday and was feeling old or something like that. I asked how old she turned. She told me 40. I said “Me too!” She was surprised. Then I asked her when her birthday was and she told me that it was in May. I said “Me too!” I asked her what day in May. She said the 28th. I said “ME TOO!!” We were blown away by learning this information about each other for several reasons. One, we both knew Sarah, she was our connection and had never met until this night at Sarah’s going away party, and that were were the same exact age on the same day.

There was only a couple small things to find out now. First, where was she from so I could know what hospital she was born in; and second, what time was she born? As it turns out my new friend Suzanne, one of Sarah’s great friends was born in the same year, same day, same town, same hospital, and within the same hour! I was born at 9:08pm and Suzanne was born at 9:43pm! I think that is awesome. Well, we both did and we were squealing like little girls about it. I actually called my Mom and asked her if she remembers any other of the Mothers there in the maternity ward when she was in there. She said she didn’t but that she remembered there weren’t many others in there; she said it was kind of quiet. But she also said that back then, it was when they used basically “knock you out and you’d wake up with a baby”.

You know, I thought that girl Suzanne looked familiar! That night when the festivities were winding down, I gave her a hug goodbye and almost said it “it was nice meeting you”. But instead, I said “it was great seeing you again!”

Here is a photo of my new friend and birth twin, Suzanne and I right after we figured out the birthday news!
