Phyllis Lyon & Del Martin, Oldest Living Lezzies On The Planet Get Hitched
Math problem, (two part question): If two months to a gay man is a lesbian year, and these two lesbians have been together 55 years, how long have they been together in gay man time; and when was the last time they had sex? Please don’t forget to factor in the occasional LBDS (Lesbian Bed Death Syndome). Answer found at the end of this blog entry.
I know the title of this blog maybe doesn’t sound all that sweet. But I am speechless at how long these two women have been together. They are incredibly beautiful and they should have a parade to simply honor their commitment. This kind of devotion is rare and amazing. Congratulations to them both! These two are fantastic role models for ALL relationships and I am inspired by them.
Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin tied the knot in San Francisco, CA on Monday, June 16th – where it is now LEGAL throughout the entire state (fucking right!) for queers to get married.
These two lovelies came together at a time when it was absolutely unsafe at all to be oneself, much less be together. I like to imagine them meeting, how passionate they must have been and how hot they must have looked in black and white photographs, how naughty and forbidden it was, and how many times they must have ducked out of a place to do a little sumthin, sumthin. I think about how the Universe aligned, put them together, and had a plan for them all along. I like to imagine that in 19-fucking-53 (yeah, no shit!) these women found peace and space with each other that was safe and real. I like to imagine the validation and hope they must feel today, that in their lifetime, their love is not only accepted but validated in the eyes of the law. And they must be saying to themselves: “it’s ’bout freaking time!” (I can’t imagine them swearing).
For my fellow queers in California and across the country, who have been together for a mere couple, three, eight, ten, fifteen or even twenty years, you must sometimes feel like you’ve waited a long time for this day to come,. Next time you think something like this, think of Phyllis and Del and their 55 years of waiting to be recognized. Be grateful for them and for you that this is happening in OUR LIFETIME!
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean we should be grateful, like we should be happy with what we get. We all know this should happened a loooong time ago. I mean, be grateful for those who are and have been on the frontlines risking lives, relationships, jobs, homes, safety to help get these measures passed and that the speed in which people are working and changing peoples hearts about these issues, and that it’s happening in OUR LIFE TIME! This is beautiful.
Is there anything sweeter? Is there anyone older (than Phyllis and Del)? Can you imagine those ole walnut pussies banging it up? Okay, enough.. I know! Moving along.. now here’s the answer to the math problem above:
Answer:
9.166 years in gay man time;
and 1955 or 1956
Love you, mean it!
